Triple Crown Chiropractic and Wellness Newsletter

August 2017 Newsletter:

August is here, and we have some new and exciting things going on around the office. First off we are having an amazing August Special. It is a goal of ours to continually impact the community in a positive direction, so we are conducting a school supply drive. All donations will be made to Title I Schools and the Learning Center.

New Patients can come into the office for a consultation, examination and x-rays, a $250 value, for just $25 and a donation of school supplies. Existing Patients can get a free therapy for that day if they bring in a donation of school supplies.

*We ask that the supply donation be equivalent to at least a $10 value

You also may have noticed some new faces around the office. We would like to formally introduce all of our new staff.

Calie is our receptionist/chiropractic assistant. She is currently in the process of completing her bachelors in biology in hopes of one day becoming a chiropractor herself.

“Since working at Triple Crown Chiropractic, it has totally changed my mindset on how truly important it is to keep up and care for the health and wellness of your body. Working for Dr. Jenny and Dr. Matt has been rewarding in itself, but also seeing how they change people’s lives daily and get them on track of living the best possible lifestyle is truly amazing. They both have taught me so much about the passion you should have for what you do in life. They are truly the best of the best.”

In her spare time she also likes to spend time with her boyfriend Kade of 5 years, also family and friends. She loves to travel and see new places. Last but not least she has a teacup Yorkie named Trig whom she adores.

Hannah graduated from Lexington Healing Arts Academy as a licensed massage therapist. She loved working on patients through all walks of life. During her career as a massage therapist she began working with chiropractors, and it changed her life completely.  She gained a better understanding of true wellness, and the power of the body to heal itself.

“I love getting to witness such a positive change in patients’ lives. Chiropractic is wellness from the inside out and we are truly changing lives every day! I was introduced to both massage therapy and chiropractic at a very young age and knew I wanted to be involved. It is an amazing feeling going into work knowing we are improving lives with each appointment!”

Hannah spends most of her time with family and friends. She is also a foster for Kentucky S.A.V.E.S. helping dogs find their forever homes. She makes her health a top priority by going to the gym on a regular basis, along with her regular adjustments.

Shelby works in the billing department here at TCC. She works hard daily to make sure that we have the most efficient billing system we can have, as well as keeping good communication to patients on any issues with billing or insurance.

“Ever since I was little, I’ve always had a passion for helping people. Working here I get to help do that every day. Chiropractic care has been such a blessing in my life, but I never really thought about how important it is. After I started working here it all started making sense. Your spine is the only thing you can’t replace.”

When I have free time I enjoy going to the lake and spending time with friends and family.

We have added some NEW therapies in office to continue to help patients recover from injuries faster and keep them ready to attack there busy schedules. Ask Dr. Jenny or Dr. Matt about these therapies in office.

Myofascial Manual Release – This is a manual (done with hands) therapy that helps to reduce muscle adhesions, increase range of motion, and can help to efficiently decrease both acute and chronic pain conditions.

Kinesio Tape in Office – When most people hear of kinesio tape they mainly think that it is only used by athletes, but K-tape can be a great way to help with any stress/overuse injury. It will help to stabilize injured areas in all areas from head to feet.

Heat/Ice Therapy – This is a great way to help reduce both acute and chronic inflammation. You can use these in office by themselves, or in combination with our electrical muscle stimulation and intersegmental traction.

Research That Matters

It is often a criticism of our profession that it is anecdotal or unfounded in the literature that chiropractic care is an effective way to treat patients. What we aim to do is to educate our patients, and share peer reviewed research articles that show the safety and efficacy of chiropractic care. We will include new research every month with our newsletter and also keep records of these in office.

  • Chiropractic manipulation in the treatment of acute back pain and sciatica with disc protrusion: a randomized double-blind clinical trial of active and simulated spinal manipulations

http://www.thespinejournalonline.com/article/S1529-9430(05)00833-8/abstract

This a particularly exciting research article because it is a top tier piece of research. A randomized double-blind clinical trial is the gold standard of research.

Background context

Acute back pain and sciatica are major sources of disability. Many medical interventions are available, including manipulations, with conflicting results.

The purpose of this article is to assess the short- and long-term effects of spinal manipulations on acute back pain and sciatica with disc protrusion.

Study design/setting

A randomized double-blind trial comparing active and simulated manipulations was conducted in rehabilitation medical centers in Rome and suburbs.

Methods

Manipulations or simulated manipulations were done 5 days per week by experienced chiropractors, with a number of sessions which depended on pain relief or up to a maximum of 20, using a rapid thrust technique. Patients were assessed at admission and at 15, 30, 45, 90, and 180 days. At each visit, all indicators of pain relief were used.

Conclusions

Active manipulations have more effect than simulated manipulations on pain relief for acute back pain and sciatica with disc protrusion.

So what does this all mean?

Simply that chiropractic manipulation shows statistically significant data in treating this condition in the acute, subacute, and pain free stages. Again, the important part of this research is that it is randomized double-blind clinical trial. We have included the hyperlink above if you would like to view the full text article.

Hope you all enjoy the newsletter and come in and take advantage of this great August Special, and all of the new therapies offered in office. Have a great month and we will see you soon,

– Dr. Matt & TTC&W Team
